Reidsville is halfway through its 150th Birthday Celebration and the recent Roaring 20s party at the historic Penn House was the highlight of the season. This blast from the past included a vintage car, fire truck, costume contest and some unforgettable memories. Residents came dressed to the nines in 1920s attire and strutted their stuff with period dances like the Charleston. Some of our favorite moments are captured below thanks to local photographer Ron Barker. Some of these are so authentic you have to do a double take to know whether it is modern day or vintage.
The Lawn Party was a huge success, but it is only one of the many events so far this year in celebration of Reidsville’s Sesquicentennial. Other events have included the unveiling of the clock tower and various open house events at City departments such as the Police Department, the Wastewater Treatment Plant and City Hall. The City also revealed a new mural, launched their summer concert series, and held the grand opening of an All-Inclusive “Sky’s the Limit” park that contains amenities accessible to all people even those with special needs.
Don’t worry, with the year only half over, you haven’t missed out on your opportunity to join in the celebration. Upcoming events include a Scavenger Hunt and 70’s Music Fest in August, Food Art and Brew Festival in October, and a Christmas Celebration that promises to be bigger than ever and ends with the burying of a time capsule to close out the year.
