Reconnect with Nature - Weekend Getaway to Lake Reidsville

Updated: May 7, 2022

Nature calls us at different times of our life. One may be born with a passion to roam amongst the simplicity of the forest or there may be an inner desire to find peace from a busy schedule. Albert Einstein understood the importance of quiet times, and was quoted as saying “Look deep into nature, and you will understand everything better.”

No matter your reason for wanting to connect with nature, you will find a weekend of peaceful relaxation at Lake Reidsville, NC. Just a short drive from key cities such as Greensboro, NC and Danville, VA, Lake Reidsville offers more than 750 acres of fun. Activities include nature trails, kayaking, camping, fishing, boating, water skiing, picnicking, disc golf, and more. Moderate fall and spring temperatures make this an ideal place to escape a majority of the year. Below is a summary of our favorite activities as well as seasonal information so you can plan your next escape.

Hiking & Biking Trails

Lake Reidsville offers 4 miles of unpaved biking and hiking trails that provide an opportunity to commune with nature and see the beauty of everything that surrounds you. The trail offers a nice change of scenery from the busyness of the city. The slower pace allows for the perfect setting to help a young child discover the wonderment of nature or pick up a new hobby such as bird watching. Lake Reidsville is listed on the NC Birding Trail and features a wide variety of species that include Goldfinches, Prairie Wobbles, Yellow Breasted Chat, Indigo Bunting, Wintering Waterfowl, Red Tail Hawks, and Great Blue Herons and Bald Eagles It also has an abundance of wildlife such as turtles, ducks, and even Eagles.

Camping

Pack your favorite camping chair and be ready to enjoy a backyard of serenity. Lake Reidsville’s 46 campground sites are nestled within a wood canopy that offers a welcome relief from the summer sun. Sites are equipped with water, electricity, and 28 full hook-up sites. Pick one of the lake view sites and enjoy the serene setting while you sip on a cup of coffee or wind down your day with a campfire.

Six shelters located throughout the grounds can be reserved during your stay. Picnic tables and grills are scattered throughout the park. Hot water shower facilities and restrooms are available which allows travelers to still have some of the comforts of home. Forget something or want to add a taste of local flair to your picnic? No worries. The great folks at Saunders Ace Hardware and the Downtown Reidsville Farmers Market are a short drive from the lake. The Farmers Market has been in operation for over 30 years and is open May through October, 7:00 am- 1:00 pm.

Fishing

Dreaming of a weekend of fishing where you will reel in big bass, crappie, bream, or catfish? Look no further! Lake Reidsville is a popular spot for anglers who fish from their boat, the dock, or designated bank area to feel the tug on the line. Of course, if you live in NC, there is nothing more nostalgic than a kid and a cane pole, watching a bobber bounce with the waves and then screaming “I got one” when the red cork is pulled beneath the waterline. Just standing by the water you can feel the stress leave you as you breathe in the fresh air and wait for the pole to tip. You must have a fishing license, but you can obtain one at the lake store.

Want to learn more about fishing? The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission, along with N.C. B.A.S.S. and the City of Reidsville, recently opened an educational fishing trail on Lake Reidsville to help anglers learn how to catch largemouth bass and other sport fish during different times of the year. The N.C. Fishing Trail at Lake Reidsville consists of nine fishing sites scattered around the reservoir. Each site is enhanced with fish attractors to attract largemouth bass and other sport fish. Anglers will learn about seasonal movements of fish that can help increase their success and make fishing more enjoyable.

Boating

Bring your boat, canoe, or kayak to enjoy a day on the lake, including the many coves and fishing holes throughout. For those who want to enjoy the lake but do not own a vessel, the Lake Reidsville Store offers single kayaks, tandem kayaks, paddle boards and canoes for rent from April through October. For the health enthusiasts on board, spend the day capturing the benefits of boating. You will build a stronger back, firm up your abs, create lean, muscular arms and drop a few pounds while releasing the stress of life as you float along Lake Reidsville. Can you say, sign me up!?

Disc Golf

How's your disc golf game coming along? Tired of playing in a field? Prepare yourself to enjoy a great day of disc golf as you maneuver your shots around trees and over water at Lake's Edge Disc Golf course. Enjoy the peace and beauty as you navigate the 18-hole course. Hit some trees? Relax. Even the professionals hit trees. The course is listed on the Disc Golf Directory at www.PDGA.com.
